Our Journey Together

Brighter Story is a Christian mission founded by Joel and Stephanie Conner, born from more than 20 years of walking alongside vulnerable children and families. After adopting one child from Mexico and two from China, their calling deepened into a lifelong commitment to serve those often overlooked—especially individuals with special needs and young adults aging out without support.

The mission begins in Sonora, near Navojoa and Álamos, where Brighter Story is building relationships rooted in grace, dignity, and long-term presence. Rather than short-term relief alone, the vision is to create extended family—offering mentorship, life skills, spiritual encouragement, and adventure-shaped opportunities that equip individuals for a successful, hope-filled life.

Through invitation rather than pressure—and compassion rather than performance—we believe every life carries God-given purpose. Brighter Story exists to help rewrite narratives of isolation into stories of belonging, growth, and enduring light.

Extended Family Support

As kids age out of children's homes, no matter how great they are, they need family - they need support and belonging. This transition can be challenging for them, as they may feel uncertain about their future and the relationships they have built during their time in care. The absence of a stable family environment can lead to feelings of loneliness and anxiety. Therefore, it is crucial to foster connections with mentors and supportive adults who can guide them through this pivotal stage of their lives, ensuring they feel valued, loved, and not alone.
